What Is the 10-Day Adi Kailash Circuit?

This is the slow, immersive version of the Adi Kailash Om Parvat Yatra. Instead of racing to the border valleys, the route curves through Kumaon's most loved shrines first — Kainchi Dham, Dunagiri, Pandavkholi, Baijnath, and Patal Bhuvaneshwar — before entering the restricted Vyas Valley.

Adi Kailash (peak approx. 5,945 m), also called Chota Kailash, is regarded — per Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) records and Vyas Valley tradition — as one of the five Panch Kailash abodes of Lord Shiva. Pilgrims take Darshan from the Jolingkong–Parvati Sarovar area at approx. 4,500–4,600 m; the destination is documented by District Pithoragarh.

Om Parvat (approx. 6,191 m) is one of the rare Himalayan peaks where a naturally occurring snow pattern resembling "ॐ" is observed on the rock face — a sight that is weather-dependent and never guaranteed.

Best Time to Visit

The route typically operates May–June and September–mid October. July–August is avoided due to monsoon landslides on the Dharchula–Gunji road, and the administration suspends Inner Line Permits in winter once heavy snowfall begins.

Approximate day temperatures range 8°C–18°C, while nights at the high villages can drop to around −5°C even in season. September usually brings the clearest post-monsoon skies for Om Parvat visibility, while May–June offers green valleys and a gentler introduction for first-timers.

Weather varies year to year, and the administration may suspend permits at short notice — we reconfirm road and permit status with every batch in the week before departure. Season guidance broadly follows Uttarakhand Tourism advisories.

Registration & Inner Line Permit (2026)

The Vyas Valley is a restricted border zone; the ILP is checked at multiple ITBP/police posts. As per current administration guidelines, you will need:

1. Filled Yatra application and permit form with a colour photo
2. Medical fitness certificate from any MBBS doctor
3. ID proof copy — Aadhaar, Indian Passport, or Voter ID
4. Two additional colour passport-size photos

AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) can occur above 3,000 m from reduced oxygen; common symptoms are headache, fatigue, nausea, loss of appetite, and disturbed sleep. Per high-altitude travel guidelines, gradual ascent is the best prevention — this itinerary builds height slowly through Kumaon before the Vyas Valley, and descending plus oxygen relieves symptoms fastest.

Pilgrims with BP, cardiac, or respiratory history must consult their doctor and carry a clearance mentioning high-altitude fitness. Our vehicles on the restricted stretch carry a first-aid kit; medical facilities beyond Dharchula are minimal.
