Chardham Yatra 2026 - Kapat Opening & Closing Dates

The Kapat (temple doors) for all four Dhams open in late April. For 2026, the dates are officially confirmed. Plan your char Dham pilgrimage from Ahmedabad around these dates:

Dham Opening Date 2026 Closing Date 2026 (Tentative)
Yamunotri 19 April 2026 (Akshaya Tritiya) 11 November 2026 (Bhai Dooj)
Gangotri 19 April 2026 (Akshaya Tritiya) 10 November 2026 (Diwali)
Kedarnath 22 April 2026 (opens at 8:00 AM) 11 November 2026 (Bhai Dooj)
Badrinath 23 April 2026 13 November 2026 (Vijayadashami ceremony)

The traditional Chardham Yatra order is Yamunotri → Gangotri → Kedarnath → Badrinath, west to east. This clockwise sequence follows the natural road connectivity through the Garhwal Himalayas and is considered the correct and auspicious way to complete the 4 Dham Yatra. After the temple closing, the deity idols move to their winter seats — Yamunotri to Kharsali, Gangotri to Mukhba village, Kedarnath to Ukhimath, and Badrinath to Joshimath — where worship continues through the winter.

Chardham Yatra Registration 2026

Chardham Yatra registration is compulsory for every pilgrim visiting Uttarakhand — Indian and foreign nationals alike. Without a valid QR-coded Yatra Parchi (e-pass), entry to any of the four Dhams is not permitted. Registration for 2026 opened on 6 March 2026 and is completely free of charge.

Register at: registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in | Tourist Care Uttarakhand app | WhatsApp 'YATRA' to +91 8394833833 | Toll-free: 01351364

Documents needed: Aadhaar card (mandatory), passport-size photo, active mobile number for OTP. Carry a printed copy — mobile network in the Himalayas can be unreliable.

What is the Best Time to Visit Char Dham Yatra

The Chardham Yatra season runs from late April to mid-November each year. The temples are closed in winter due to heavy snow. For pilgrims travelling from Ahmedabad, choosing the right window matters for both comfort and safety.

May – June: The best months for first-time pilgrims and families from Gujarat. Weather is pleasant, roads are clear, and the Himalayan views after winter are at their freshest. Both Kedarnath and Yamunotri treks are manageable in this season.

July – August (Monsoon): Heavy rains trigger frequent landslides and road closures on the Chardham highway. Pilgrimage is possible but travel requires real-time route monitoring. Not recommended for elderly pilgrims or group tours from Ahmedabad.

September – October: Post-monsoon is the most popular window for Gujarati pilgrims. The skies are clear, the Himalayan scenery is stunning after monsoon freshness, and the roads are in good condition. Crowds are moderate and temperatures are comfortable.

November: The closing month. Gangotri closes on 10 November, Yamunotri and Kedarnath on 11 November, and Badrinath on 13 November 2026. Book early if travelling in November and keep buffer days for weather delays.

How to Reach Chardham Yatra from Ahmedabad?

You can start the Chardham pilgrimage from Ahmedabad comfortably by train, flight, or road. All options are senior-friendly and family-friendly. Here is all the important information:

By Train (Ahmedabad to Haridwar / Delhi)

You can take a budget-friendly train from Ahmedabad directly to Haridwar. The Yoga Express (19031/19032) and Haridwar Mail (19019/19020) are the most convenient and popular direct trains on this route for Chardham pilgrims. Alternatively, take a Delhi-bound train from Ahmedabad and then connect to Haridwar by a short train or taxi. From Haridwar, your Chardham Yatra private vehicle begins.

By Flight (Ahmedabad to Dehradun / Delhi)

You can fly from Ahmedabad (AMD) to Dehradun's Jolly Grant Airport — IndiGo and Air India currently operate flights on this route. Dehradun is approximately 55 km from Haridwar (about 1.5 hrs by road). Alternatively, fly to Delhi (DEL) and drive to Haridwar (220 km / 5–6 hrs). The Dehradun flight saves 2–3 hours of road travel compared to flying via Delhi.

By Road

You can also travel by road from Ahmedabad to Haridwar — approximately 960 km via NH-48 and NH-334. The drive takes around 16–18 hours and is best done in a sleeper bus overnight or split over two days with a halt at Jaipur or Delhi. From Haridwar, our private vehicle covers the full Chardham circuit.

Chardham Yatra Package from Ahmedabad by Helicopter

If you want to complete the Chardham Yatra quickly and comfortably, a helicopter tour is a great option — especially for senior citizens and those who find the Kedarnath or Yamunotri treks physically difficult.

  • Our experienced pilots will guide you properly before take-off for safety.
  • Our helicopter tour takes you close to the temple, so you don't have to walk much or travel for hours — saving time and energy for darshan.
  • Kedarnath helicopter service operates from Phata and Sirsi helipads. Fares are UCADA-regulated and fixed by the government.
  • Full Chardham Yatra by helicopter can be completed in 4–5 days versus 11–12 days by road.
  • Kedarnath helicopter bookings are done through heliyatra.irctc.co.in (official IRCTC portal). We assist with booking and coordination.

Chardham from Ahmedabad – 12 Days Itinerary

Your Chardham Yatra from Ahmedabad begins today. Board the overnight train from Ahmedabad to Delhi — Yoga Express (19031/19032) or Haridwar Mail (19019/19020) are the most popular direct choices from Ahmedabad for this journey. Gujarati pilgrims who prefer flying can book an Ahmedabad to Delhi or Ahmedabad to Dehradun flight. Overnight journey.

On arrival in Delhi, our representative will meet you and transfer you to your vehicle. Drive from Delhi to Haridwar — the gateway to Chardham Yatra and one of the seven sacred cities (Sapta Puri) of Hinduism. On arrival, check in to your hotel. In the evening, attend the Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri, where hundreds of Diyas are set afloat on the river as priests perform the Aarti on the Ghats. Overnight stay at Haridwar.

Early morning after breakfast, checkout and drive to Barkot via Mussoorie and Kempty Falls. Barkot is the base town for the Yamunotri Yatra, situated on the banks of the Yamuna river in Uttarkashi district. On arrival, check in to your hotel, freshen up, and rest. Dinner and overnight stay at Barkot.

Wake up at around 4:00 AM and drive approximately 42 km to Janki Chatti — the roadhead for Yamunotri. From here, start the 6 km trek up to Yamunotri Temple at 3,291 m. For those who prefer not to trek, pony, doli, and palki services are available at extra cost.

On arrival at Yamunotri, take a holy dip in the Janki Bai Kund (hot spring kund) and then go for darshan at the Yamunotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. Near the temple, you can cook rice or potatoes by dipping them wrapped in cloth into the boiling Surya Kund hot spring — pilgrims traditionally carry this as prasad. After darshan, trek back down to Janki Chatti and drive to Barkot. Dinner and overnight stay.

Morning after breakfast, checkout and drive to Uttarkashi. En route, visit the Prakeshwar Mahadev Temple. Uttarkashi — known as the 'Kashi of the North' — is one of the main pilgrimage towns on the Gangotri route. On arrival, visit the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in the town, one of the oldest Shiva temples in the Garhwal region, and seek the blessings of Lord Shiva. Check in to your hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at Uttarkashi.

Start early — around 4:00 AM to 5:00 AM — for Gangotri Dham. Drive through the Bhagirathi valley, passing Harsil — a quiet Himalayan village known for its deodar forests and the fast-flowing Bhagirathi river. Gangotri at 3,100 m is road accessible — no trekking required.

At Gangotri, take a holy dip in the Bhagirathi river and go for darshan at the Gangotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Ganga. The temple marks the spot where King Bhagirath performed penance so that the Ganga would descend to earth to liberate his ancestors. After darshan, drive back to Uttarkashi. Dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, checkout and begin the long drive to Guptkashi. En route, stop at the Dhari Devi Temple on the banks of the Alaknanda river — a revered shakti peeth on the Chardham route — if time permits. You can also visit the Triyuginarayan Temple on the way, the site where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati are said to have been married. On arrival at Guptkashi, check in to your hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.

Rise very early — between 1:00 AM and 3:00 AM. Drive to Sonprayag (approximately 35 km), then transfer to shared jeep to Gaurikund — the starting point of the Kedarnath trek. Begin the 16 km trek from Gaurikund to Kedarnath Dham at 3,553 m. Pony, doli, and palki are available at extra cost. Helicopter service from Phata and Sirsi helipads is also available if booked in advance.

Kedarnath is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The ancient stone temple, believed to have been built by the Pandavas, has survived centuries in this high-altitude setting. On reaching Kedarnath, go for darshan at the temple. In the evening, visit the Shankaracharya Samadhi behind the temple and attend the evening aarti. Check in to your pre-booked accommodation near the shrine. Overnight at Kedarnath.

Wake up early — around 4:00 AM — for the morning darshan at Kedarnath Temple. After darshan, start the descent trek to Gaurikund. Take the shared jeep to Sonprayag where your driver will be waiting. Drive back to Guptkashi. Dinner and overnight stay.

Morning after breakfast, checkout and drive to Joshimath. En route, pass through three of the Panch Prayags — Rudraprayag (confluence of Mandakini and Alaknanda), Karnaprayag (confluence of Alaknanda and Pindar), and Nandprayag (confluence of Alaknanda and Nandakini). These five sacred river confluences along the Alaknanda are among the most revered spots on the Chardham route. On arrival at Joshimath, check in to your hotel. Note: Joshimath has the last ATMs before Badrinath — withdraw sufficient cash here. Dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, drive to Badrinath (approximately 45 km / 1.5–2 hrs). En route, stop at Vishnuprayag — the confluence of the Alaknanda and Dhauliganga rivers. On arrival at Badrinath, take a holy bath at Tapt Kund (also known as Surya Kund) — the natural hot sulphur spring on the Alaknanda bank right below the temple — before going for darshan at the Badrinath Temple dedicated to Lord Badrivishal.

After darshan, explore the area around Badrinath: Mana village (the last Indian village before the Tibet border, 3 km from the temple), Vyas Gufa and Ganesh Gufa (caves at Mana village where Sage Vyas dictated the Mahabharata to Lord Ganesha), and Bhim Pul — the natural rock bridge over the Saraswati river. The point where the Saraswati meets the Alaknanda is also worth a short stop. Return to Joshimath for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, checkout and drive from Joshimath back towards Haridwar through the Alaknanda valley. En route, stop at Devprayag — where the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers meet to form the Ganga. In Rishikesh, if time permits, attend the Ganga Aarti at Triveni Ghat or walk across Ram Jhula. From Haridwar, drive to Delhi airport or railway station to board your flight or train back to Ahmedabad. The Chardham Yatra from Ahmedabad ends here.
