Plan your 6 Days Adi Kailash Om Parvat Yatra with the itinerary most of our pilgrims choose. It pairs both high-altitude Darshans with Kumaon’s temple trail — Kainchi Dham, Golu Devta, Jageshwar Dham, and the Patal Bhuvaneshwar cave shrine.

The package includes Inner Line Permit assistance at the SDM Dharchula office, 4x4 Bolero Campers beyond Dharchula, oxygen support on board, and vegetarian meals throughout. It suits reasonably fit pilgrims of most ages; senior citizens and those with BP, cardiac, or respiratory history should travel after a doctor’s high-altitude clearance, given the 3,000 m+ altitudes in the Byans Valley.

Whether you travel as a family, a group of friends, or with elder parents, this Adi Kailash temple trail covers the maximum sacred ground per day of leave — while leaving every arrangement in expert hands.

Why the 6-Day Circuit Is Our Most-Booked Package

Five nights works well for most pilgrims. You get a full acclimatisation-friendly climb (Pithoragarh night before the Vyas Valley), both Darshans on separate unhurried mornings, and — unlike shorter formats — the return leg becomes a pilgrimage of its own through Patal Bhuvaneshwar.

Adi Kailash (5,945 m), also called Chhota Kailash, is revered in Hindu tradition as an earthly abode of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati, and is one of the five Panch Kailash peaks. Om Parvat (approx. 6,191 m) carries a natural "ॐ" snow formation on its face — devotees believe it is among the few mountains in India where this pattern is visible.

According to local legend, Ravana meditated in these valleys and won Lord Shiva’s boon here — a tradition passed down in the Kumaon Himalaya rather than a recorded historical event. Whether you come for the mythology, the mountains, or the silence, the 6-day format gives each its due without stretching your leave.

Best Time & Weather for the 6-Day Yatra

The 2026 season typically runs May–June and September–mid October. July–August is avoided for monsoon landslides, and the ILP process closes in winter with heavy snowfall.

Expect days of roughly 8°C–18°C and nights dipping toward −5°C at the high villages. September post-monsoon skies usually give the clearest Om Parvat sightlines — though no operator can guarantee the “ॐ” will be cloud-free on your morning.

Registration, Permit & Booking Terms

As per current administration guidelines, carry:

  1. Filled yatra application and permit form with a colour photo
  2. Medical fitness certificate from any MBBS doctor
  3. ID proof copy — Aadhaar, Indian Passport, or Voter ID
  4. Two additional colour passport-size photos

Permit and medical formalities are completed in person at the SDM Dharchula office on Day 2, with our coordinator assisting you through the process — only Indian citizens are issued the Inner Line Permit for this route. Any administrative delay may require an extra Dharchula night at actuals.

Things to Carry & Altitude Notes

Pack rubber-sole trekking shoes, sweater/jacket, thermals, woollen scarf, 4–5 pairs of socks, woollen and waterproof gloves, a light raincoat, ORS/Glucon-D, non-blue sunglasses, and a personal medical kit. Buy and test warm gear at home — the route has minimal shopping.

AMS can strike above 3,000 m: watch for headache, nausea, fatigue, and poor sleep. Hydrate constantly, avoid alcohol, and descend if symptoms worsen. Pilgrims with BP, cardiac, or respiratory history need a doctor’s high-altitude clearance. General guidance only — consult your physician before travel.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation Timing Charges
More than 30 days before departure 25% of total package cost as processing fee
15–30 days before start date 75% of tour cost
0–15 days before start date 100% of tour cost

Travel insurance is strongly recommended.

A Note for NRI & International Guests

The Adi Kailash region is a remote, high-altitude destination with limited tourism infrastructure. Stays are clean and comfortable hotels, guesthouses, and homestays — not 5-star properties. Basic facilities, occasional power or network interruptions, and simple village rooms are part of the authentic experience; travel with an open mind and the pilgrimage will reward you far beyond amenities. (Foreign nationals and OCI holders also require a Protected Area Permit — contact us 2–3 months ahead.)

How to Reach Kathgodam

Kathgodam is the nearest railhead to the circuit, well connected to Delhi by the Kathgodam Shatabdi (12040, approx. 5h 35m) and the overnight Ranikhet Express (15013) — verify current timings on IRCTC and book 60+ days ahead in peak season. Pantnagar Airport (approx. 65 km) has limited flights; our pickup covers both points on request.

Cash, Network & Fuel — Quick Facts

  • Last reliable ATMs: Pithoragarh and Dharchula — no UPI or cards work beyond Dharchula; carry ₹2,000–3,000 in small notes
  • Network: BSNL/Airtel typically reach Dharchula (patchy beyond); Jio usually drops earlier; no regular signal in the Vyas Valley — availability varies
  • Fuel: the last petrol pump is at Dharchula; our 4x4s are fuelled before entering the restricted zone

Detailed Itinerary

(approx. 200 km | 7–9 hrs) Altitude: Pithoragarh approx. 1,514 m | Meals: Dinner | Overnight: Pithoragarh

A warm welcome at Kathgodam opens the yatra, followed by a scenic climb through the Kumaon Himalayas. The day is a temple trail in itself: pause at lakeside Bhimtal, take Darshan at Kainchi Dham — Neem Karoli Baba's ashram.

From there, bow at the 12th-century Chitai Golu Devta, the God of Justice, and walk among the 100+ stone shrines of Jageshwar Dham, the “Valley of Gods,” as time permits. Actual drive time depends on how long you stop at each temple — 7 hours is possible with brief halts, closer to 9 hours if you take unhurried Darshan at all four stops. By evening, settle into Pithoragarh in the beautiful Shor Valley with a traditional welcome drink and your first night of Himalayan acclimatisation.

(approx. 180 km | 7–8 hrs) Altitude: approx. 3,200 m | Meals: Breakfast, Dinner | Overnight: Gunji/Nabi homestay

After an early breakfast, descend to Dharchula on the Kali river — the India–Nepal border town — and complete the medical check-up and Inner Line Permit formalities with our coordinator. Then the 4x4s take over: the border road climbs past the alpine Chialekh valley, tilting old Garbyang (“the sinking village”), and serene Napalchu before reaching Gunji or Nabi by evening. A simple Himalayan dinner and the deep quiet of the Vyas Valley close the day.

(approx. 70–80 km round trip | 5–6 hrs + ~2 km walk) Altitude: Jyolingkong approx. 4,600 m | Meals: Breakfast, Dinner | Overnight: Gunji

The core Darshan day of the circuit. Drive at first light to Jyolingkong, base of Adi Kailash (5,945 m) — Chhota Kailash — and watch the peak mirror itself in Parvati Sarovar.

Pilgrims may take the optional 2 km parikrama of the sarovar (fitness and weather permitting), seek blessings at Gauri Kund and the Lord Shiva temple, perform puja, and simply sit with the mountain. Photograph the snow peaks, then descend to Gunji for a restful evening.

(approx. 150–180 km | 8–9 hrs) Altitude: Nabhidhang approx. 4,300 m | Meals: Breakfast, Dinner | Overnight: Didihat/Chaukori

Pre-dawn departure for Nabhidhang, the last permitted vehicle point before Om Parvat. After ITBP security verification, behold the peak where snow naturally sketches the sacred “ॐ” — a sight many pilgrims describe as extraordinary, usually clearest before mid-morning cloud. Panoramas of Nabhi Parvat and Nag Parvat frame the plateau.

The descent is studded with shrines: Kalapani, believed origin of the Kali river, its Kali Temple and Shani Temple, and Vyas Gufa, the cave linked in tradition to Sage Ved Vyas. Continue down the Kumaon hills to Didihat or Chaukori for the night.

(approx. 330 km | 10–12 hrs, depending on road conditions) Altitude: Patal Bhuvaneshwar approx. 940 m | Meals: Breakfast, Dinner | Overnight: Bhimtal

The longest but most rewarding descent day. Drive to Patal Bhuvaneshwar, the “underground abode of Lord Shiva” — an ancient limestone cave entered through a narrow descending passage. Inside, natural formations are associated in Hindu tradition with Ganesha, Sheshnag, Garuda, and a sacred Shivling, among countless legends.

Emerge, and roll through the green Kumaon hills to lakeside Bhimtal for a peaceful final night after days at altitude. This is our longest single driving day — actual duration varies with monsoon-season landslide clearance and hill traffic, so we build in a buffer wherever possible.

(approx. 25 km | 1 hr) Meals: Breakfast | Drop: Kathgodam Railway Station

A leisurely breakfast, one last look at the lake, and a short drive to Kathgodam. The yatra ends with the blessings of Lord Shiva — and the standing invitation of the Himalayas to return.

Frequently Asked Questions

Standard starts from ₹33,515 and Deluxe from ₹44,900 per person on twin sharing. Group-size rates go lower — a 6-person Scorpio group starts near ₹20,800 per head.

Standard uses budget hotels and shared-bath homestays; Deluxe upgrades to mid-range hotels at the plains stops and attached-bath wooden homestays at Gunji/Nabi.

Kainchi Dham, Chitai Golu Devta, Jageshwar Dham, Kali and Shani temples at Kalapani, Vyas Gufa, and the Patal Bhuvaneshwar cave shrine.

The cave involves a narrow, steep descent; those with knee problems or claustrophobia should assess carefully. A guide accompanies visitors inside.

About 2–3 km from Jyolingkong to Parvati Sarovar and the temple, and 3–4 km if you include Gauri Kund — gentle terrain, done at your pace.

No — it is a weather-dependent natural snow formation, usually clearest in early morning. No sighting can be guaranteed on any given day.

No — Adi Kailash is in India's Pithoragarh district (ILP only); Kailash Mansarovar is in Tibet. Both are honoured among the Panch Kailash.

No. Heavy snowfall closes the route and the administration suspends ILPs; travel in the May–June or September–mid October windows.

Dedicated Mahindra Bolero 4x4 Campers (or equivalent), as mandated for the upper reaches, with experienced Himalayan drivers.

Regular networks generally end at Dharchula; expect no signal in the Vyas Valley apart from limited Wi-Fi at the community stay. Availability varies.

A filled permit form with photo, an MBBS medical fitness certificate, ID proof (Aadhaar/Passport/Voter ID), and two extra passport photos. We assist end-to-end.

Yes, in reasonable health with a doctor's high-altitude clearance — the Pithoragarh night makes the ascent gentler than the 5-day express format.

For most pilgrims, yes — it balances both Darshans, the Kumaon temple trail, and Patal Bhuvaneshwar in the fewest comfortable days, which is why it is our most-booked format.

Take the Kathgodam Shatabdi (12040, approx. 5h 35m) or the overnight Ranikhet Express (15013) — verify timings on IRCTC and book 60+ days ahead in season.

A 50% advance reserves your seats; the balance 50% is payable 7 days before departure. The advance is non-refundable.

Dharchula has the last petrol pump; Pithoragarh and Dharchula have the last reliable ATMs. Carry cash for the Vyas Valley — no digital payments work there.

Landscape photography is fine, but it is prohibited at ITBP/army checkposts, bridges, and defence installations in the border zone. Drones are not permitted.

8–10 weeks ahead for May–June and 6–8 weeks for September — group seats, homestay beds, and Kathgodam trains all have fixed capacity.

Yes, till Dharchula. Beyond that, in the Byans Valley, only cash works — carry ₹2,000–3,000 in small notes for the Gunji/Nabi leg.

Yes, but with occasional short outages, especially after rain. Carrying a power bank is a good idea.

Yes — a single ILP issued at the SDM Dharchula office covers the entire restricted zone, including both Darshans on this itinerary.

Mild breathlessness on exertion above 3,000 m is common; rest and hydrate. Report worsening symptoms to your driver or coordinator immediately — descent is the standard response for AMS.

Yes till Dharchula. Beyond that, homestays provide boiled or filtered water — carrying a reusable bottle is recommended.

The 6-day format adds a Pithoragarh acclimatisation night and the Patal Bhuvaneshwar leg on the return, making the climb gentler and the circuit more complete than the 5-day version.
