The Panch Kedar Yatra is one of the most demanding and spiritually rewarding pilgrimages in the entire Hindu tradition. Located across the rugged Garhwal Himalayan terrain in Uttarakhand, the five Kedar temples — Kedarnath, Tungnath, Rudranath, Madhyamaheshwar, and Kalpeshwar — are the five places where different body parts of Lord Shiva manifested in the form of a bull, according to the legend of the Mahabharata.
The story goes that after the Kurukshetra War, the Pandavas sought Lord Shiva's forgiveness for the sin of killing their own kin. Lord Shiva, unwilling to forgive them easily, disguised himself as a bull in the Garhwal mountains. When Bhima recognized the bull at Kedarnath and tried to catch him, the bull dived into the ground — leaving his hump at Kedarnath. The remaining parts of the bull appeared at different locations, now known as the Panch Kedar temples.
This 16-day Panch Kedar Yatra package from Delhi covers all five temples with a combination of road travel, trekking, and camping. It includes hotels where available and camping tents at high-altitude stops. All meals, ground transfers, and expert local guidance are included. The Panch Kedar circuit is physically challenging — especially Rudranath (20 km trek) and Madhyamaheshwar (19 km trek) — but every step of it is worth the effort.

Best Time for Panch Kedar Yatra
If you plan to complete all five temples in one trip, the window of May–June and September–October is when all temples are simultaneously accessible. The Rudranath temple has the shortest season (June–September), so that sets the practical limit. July and August are monsoon months with frequent landslides on approach roads — not ideal for the full circuit.
Month-wise Quick Reference
| Month | Conditions | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| May – June | 15–20°C, clear skies, rhododendrons blooming | Best for full circuit — all 5 temples open, pleasant trekking |
| July – August | Monsoon — heavy rain, landslide risk | Avoid for full circuit; Rudranath/Madhyamaheshwar routes dangerous |
| September – October | Cool, lush green, excellent visibility | Excellent — stable trails, best views, comfortable temperatures |
| November onwards | Snow begins, temples close one by one | Only Kalpeshwar accessible; avoid for full circuit |
Safety Tips for Panch Kedar Yatra
- Rudranath and Madhyamaheshwar are remote — always hire a local guide. Trails are not as well-marked as Kedarnath.
- Build in one extra acclimatization day before Rudranath and Madhyamaheshwar — both are high altitude treks.
- Carry a sleeping bag rated to at least -5°C for camp nights at Gaundhar, Rudranath, and Dumuk.
- July–August monsoon makes approach roads to Rudranath dangerous. September is safer.
- Personal medication: Diamox (altitude sickness), ORS, pain relief, antiseptic cream for trek cuts.
- Physical preparation: Start daily 5 km walks at least 6 weeks before the Panch Kedar Yatra. This is not a casual trip.
Panch Kedar Yatra Registration 2026

- Other 4 Temples: Tungnath, Rudranath, Madhyamaheshwar, and Kalpeshwar do not require separate advance online registration. Standard trekking permits apply and are arranged by us as part of the package.
