Uttarakhand Chardham Yatra Routes Closed Due to Rainfall and Landslides

Though monsoons in Uttarakhand have weakened yet the natural calamities are still going on. Because of landslides the route to Chardham is blocked and this is affecting the Chardham Yatra. In the course of this, the landslides that occurred on Wednesday on Badrinath highway between Helang and Gulabkoti caused damage to nearly 20 meters of the road. As a result, Badrinath pilgrims were kept on halt at the various check posts. Simultaneously the Gangotri Highway was shut down near Helang on the third day too. At this spot nearly 80 vehicles of the commandos were stuck up.

After the cessation of rainfall, landslides occurring in the mountainous regions have aggravated the difficulties. Apart from the Chardham pilgrims even the locals too have to go through many difficulties. When it comes to Badrinath Highway, the highway is going through a phase of continuous opening up and shutting down.

Due to the landslides that have occurred on Wednesday afternoon on the mountains a huge quantity of debris have rolled down onto the roads as result of which vehicles got stuck up on both sides. Administration as a way to handle the situation has taken the step of stopping the pilgrims at various posts and at the same time, is making all the necessary efforts to open up the routes.

The Gangotri Highway that had been blocked since the last 3 days could not be opened on Wednesday too. However the Kedarnath highway that had been shut down for the last 10 days due to the accumulation of debris between Gaurikund and Sonaprayag had been thrown open on Wednesday. Journey continues on the Yamunotri highway.

On the other hand, in the various mountainous regions of Uttarakhand several routes are shut down and local villagers are facing a huge lot of problems. The state weather department chief Vikram Singh has announced that there’s a possibility of mild to medium rainfall in some parts of the state along with heavy downpour.
