Gangotri Temple Significance
Constructed during the 18th century by General Amar Singh, Gangotri temple is one of the most visited sites in Uttarakhand. As per mythology, Goddess Ganga took the form of a river here after King Bhagirath’s severe centuries-old penance. Bhagirath wanted to absolve his predecessor’s sins. So the Goddess descended in this world and since then people take a dip in this holy river to cleanse their sins and purify their souls.
