Chardham Yatra – Transit Camp for Tirth Yatris to Be Constructed at Rishikesh

Yatris from worldwide going for Chardham Yatra now won’t face any problems related to accommodation in Rishikesh since state of the art and comfortable transit camps will be set up whose worth will be 15 crore rupees. To get this transit camp started an overall expenditure of 15 crore rupees will be made.

Half of this overall expenditure will be borne by Uttarakhand tourism department while the other half will be handled by Tehri hydro development corporation (THDC). According to departmental officials the overall responsibility for the construction of the transit camps have been given to the government agency BRIDCUL.

It should be kept in mind that Chardham Yatra starts from Haridwar and Rishikesh. GMVN has constructed around 50 guest houses on the Chardham Yatra routes so that Chardham Tirth Yatri do not face and difficulties and there is no problem for accommodation during their pilgrimage however, there are not enough accommodation facilities available in Haridwar and Rishikesh.

The Chardham Yatris who travel from various parts of the world are left with the option to stay at private hotels or Dharamshalas in both these cities. A lot of times, especially during the peak Yatra season, are not able to find accommodation due to over booking in any place and they have to spend their nights on railways station platforms or bus stands. Seeing these problems being faced by pilgrims, the government has decided to spend 15 crore rupees in getting state of the art and comfortable transit camps constructed.

According to SS Samant senior research officer of Uttarakhand tourism development council, 50% of the total expenditure on the construction of the transit camp will be done by THDC while the other half will be borne by the tourism department.

A DPR of the proposed transit camp has also been prepared. The construction responsibility for the transit camp has been given to BRIDCUL. This transit camp in Rishikesh and Haridwar will be completed in a duration of 2 years and till then Yatris will have to find a way to stay in the currently functioning hotels, lodges, Dharamshalas and guesthouses.
