Haridwar Kumbh 2027 (officially the Haridwar Ardh Kumbh) runs from 14 January to 20 April 2027. There are ten main bathing days on the Ganga. Three of them are Amrit Snan days, when the Akharas go in procession to Har Ki Pauri: 6 March, 8 March and 14 April 2027. Mela Officer Sonika Singh confirmed this schedule on 14 April 2026, as reported by PTI in ThePrint.

The dates are fixed. Your trip will be decided by the last stretch to the river, meaning how far from the Ghat your vehicle is stopped and how close your room is to a Ghat that is open on the day you bathe.

Mela Officer Sonika Singh announced these ten bathing festivals on 14 April 2026 (PTI, via ThePrint). They match the list CM Pushkar Singh Dhami announced on 28 November 2025 after meeting the 13 Akharas. Weekdays are checked against the 2027 calendar.

The Ram Navami label for 15 April comes from the November 2025 announcement. Some early news reports called 20 April a fourth Amrit Snan. The Mela Administration's April 2026 schedule lists three, and this page follows it.

What Happens on an Amrit Snan Day at Haridwar Kumbh 2027

Amrit Snan is the name now used for what many reports still call Shahi Snan. The Akharas walk in procession to Har Ki Pauri and bathe there first, in their traditional order. Naga sadhus and Mahamandaleshwars lead large processions through the city, and many pilgrims come just to watch.

For ordinary pilgrims this has a practical cost. In past Kumbhs, Har Ki Pauri has been kept for the Akharas while they bathe, so you either use another Ghat or wait until the processions finish. Expect the tightest traffic restrictions of the whole Kumbh on these three days.

Why 2027 is an Ardh Kumbh, and Why it is Being Run Like a Full One

Haridwar is one of the four Kumbh sites, along with Prayag, Ujjain and Nashik. The Haridwar district administration's Kumbh page tells the Puranic story: during the chase for the Amrita Kalasha after the churning of the ocean, the nectar was set down at these four places, and the Kumbh is celebrated every 12 years to mark it. An Ardh Kumbh falls at the midpoint of that cycle. Haridwar's last full Kumbh was in 2021, which is why 2027 is an Ardh Kumbh.

The state has decided to run it at full scale. When the dates were announced in November 2025, CM Dhami said the Ardh Kumbh would be held with the grandeur of a Purna Kumbh, and ThePrint's report of that announcement says sadhus will take Amrit Snan at an Ardh Kumbh for the first time. The CM also said he expects more pilgrims than in 2010 and 2021.

Choosing Your Date

Our recommendation for anyone travelling with elderly parents is simple: avoid the three Amrit Snan days unless seeing the procession is the reason for the trip. A non-Amrit date will still be crowded. It will not have the Akhara processions or the Ghat closures that come with them.

By Air

Jolly Grant Airport near Dehradun is 37 km from Haridwar, according to the district administration. International travellers usually land at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, which the district site lists as the nearest international airport, and continue by road or rail. Book the airport transfer before you land.

By Train

Haridwar railway station has direct trains from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Indore, Jaipur and Ahmedabad (District Haridwar). Kumbh special trains for 2027 have not been announced yet.

By Road

Delhi is about 220 km away, normally a 5 to 6 hour drive. At the launch of the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor on 14 April 2026, the Prime Minister said it would make Dehradun, Haridwar and Rishikesh more accessible (PIB). On a Snan day, ignore normal drive times and leave early.

Parking, Shuttles and the Walk to the Ghat

Mela Officer Sonika Singh has said parking and shuttle services will be provided at entry points to the city, and that the Kumbh area will be pedestrian-friendly, with special arrangements for the elderly and local residents on major bathing days (Pioneer Edge, February 2026). In practice that means walking from wherever the shuttle leaves you.

Where to Stay during Haridwar Kumbh 2027

Distance to an open Ghat matters more than the star rating. A comfortable hotel that is a long walk from the Ghat on a Snan day will tire elderly travellers far more than a basic room two lanes from the river.

• February 2026: 35 permanent works approved, an Integrated Control and Command Centre planned, and third-party inspection of works by three institutions including IIT Roorkee (Pioneer Edge, quoting the Mela Administration).

Weather and Packing

January and February mornings at the Ghat are cold, and you will be wet afterwards. April is warm and the open Ghats get strong sun. Pack around that:

• A full change of clothes, a towel and a dry bag for the Snan
• Warm layers and a cap if your date is before mid-March
• Shoes you can walk in for hours, plus slippers for the Ghat

• Confirm the business identity: registered name, GST number where applicable, and a physical address you can verify.
• Pay only to a bank account in that registered name. If the beneficiary name does not match the company, stop.
• Get a written invoice and the cancellation terms before you transfer money.
• Ignore offers of guaranteed Har Ki Pauri access on Amrit Snan days. The Mela Administration controls Ghat access on those days, and no private operator can promise it.
• Book government camps or services only through official Uttarakhand Government channels once they are announced.

Nearby Temples, If you Have a Spare Day

Mansa Devi and Chandi Devi temples sit on the hills above the city. Closer to the river are Maya Devi Temple and, in Kankhal, Daksh Mahadev Temple. Rishikesh is about 25 km upstream. Ropeway and temple timings may change during the Kumbh for crowd control.
