By Air: The nearest airport to Char Dham is Jolly Grant Airport. From Jolly Grant Airport, you have to cover the rest of the route by road by intra-state & interstate buses or private vehicles.
By Helicopter: Reach Sahastradhara Helipad in Dehradun and take a flight from there. The nearest helipads to Kedarnath, Badrinath, Yamunotri, and Gangotri are Phata Helipad, Badrinath Helipad, Kharsali Helipad, and Harshil Civil Helipad, respectively.
By Rail: The nearest railway station is Haridwar Railway Station. From the station, the shrine is approximately 260 km away, which you can cover by road.
By Road: You can hire a cab or travel by bus (both government and private run on this route) from your city.
The Chardham Yatra season starts in late April or early May, depending on when Akshaya Tritiya is, and continues till October. The shrines are closed before winter snow. However, the best period is in May & June, and September & October.

The Chardham Yatra begins every year on or around Akshaya Tritiya, which is in April or early May.
Yes, it is safe to visit the Char Dham sites. Also, you must be physically fit and have good stamina to undertake this Yatra. You're recommended to avoid visiting the Char Dham sites during monsoon as it can be a bit risky due to landslides and heavy rain.

The Kedarnath Trek is around 16 kilometers long and begins in Gaurikund. The Yamunotri Trek is around 6 kilometers long and starts in Jankichatti.
