The Do Dham Yatra from Haridwar covers Kedarnath — one of the 12 Jyotirlingas at 3,583 metres — and Badrinath, the abode of Lord Vishnu at 3,133 metres on the banks of the Alaknanda river. In 2026, Kedarnath opens on 22 April and Badrinath on 23 April. Yatra registration is mandatory for both — free at registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in.

Our 5-day Badri Kedar Yatra package from Haridwar covers hotel stay in Sitapur (near Kedarnath base), Badrinath, and Pipalkoti — all meals included. Priority Darshan coordination at both temples, Sonprayag shared jeep transfer, and Yatra e-pass registration assistance are part of every booking.

Char Dham Yatra Registration 2026 — Mandatory for All Pilgrims

Yatra registration is compulsory for all pilgrims visiting Kedarnath and Badrinath in 2026. Without a valid registration QR code, entry is denied at the Sonprayag checkpoint (for Kedarnath) and at Joshimath (for Badrinath). Registration is completely free.

How to Register — Step by Step

  1. Visit: registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in or download the Uttarakhand Tourist Care app
  2. Enter personal details: name, age, address, and government ID number (Aadhaar / Voter ID / Passport)
  3. Select your intended visit date for each Dham
  4. Submit — receive a QR-code e-pass by SMS and email

How to Reach Haridwar

By Air

Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun is the nearest airport — 54 km from Haridwar (approximately 1 hour by road). IndiGo, Air India, and SpiceJet operate daily flights from Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore. We provide airport pickup from Dehradun for all packages.

By Train

Haridwar Junction (HW) is well connected to Delhi (Shatabdi Express: 4.5 hrs), Mumbai, Kolkata, and Lucknow. Rishikesh is 24 km from Haridwar — 40 minutes by shared jeep or taxi. Our team provides pickup from Haridwar railway station.

By Road

Haridwar is 249 km from Delhi — approximately 5–6 hours via NH-58 (Dehradun Expressway). State buses and private Volvo coaches run from ISBT Kashmiri Gate, Delhi. From Haridwar, our driver picks you up for the Yatra.

Key Distances from Haridwar

Route Distance Approx. Time Note
Haridwar → Guptkashi ~220 km 7–8 hrs Via Devprayag–Rudraprayag
Haridwar → Badrinath ~315–320 km 10–12 hrs Via Rishikesh–Joshimath
Sonprayag → Gaurikund 5 km 15–20 mins Govt shared jeep only — private vehicles not allowed
Gaurikund → Kedarnath 16 km trek 6–8 hrs on foot Pony / palki / helicopter available
Kedarnath → Badrinath ~240 km 9–10 hrs Via Rudraprayag–Chamoli

Practical Tips

  • Yatra registration — do it early: Free at registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in. For May–June travel, register 10–15 days in advance. Kedarnath has a daily pilgrim cap — preferred dates fill fast during peak season.
  • Sonprayag vehicle rule: All private cars, tourist taxis, and buses stop at Sonprayag. Government shared jeep runs to Gaurikund (5 km, ~₹30–50/person). Our driver waits at Sonprayag. No private vehicle is allowed beyond this point — no exceptions.
  • Gaurikund trek start time: Begin the 16 km Kedarnath trek from Gaurikund by 7:00 AM. Authorities may turn back trekkers starting after 2:00 PM. An early start ensures completion in daylight and reduces risk.
  • Do not skip the Guptkashi/Sitapur overnight: Guptkashi is at ~1,319 metres; Kedarnath is at 3,583 metres. This overnight stop is your acclimatisation. Attempting to reach Gaurikund directly from Haridwar on Day 1 significantly increases altitude sickness risk.
  • Altitude sickness: Symptoms — headache, nausea, breathlessness — are common above 3,000 metres. Consult your doctor about Diamox before travel if you have cardiac or respiratory conditions. A medical centre is available near Kedarnath temple. Descend immediately if symptoms worsen.
  • Packing for Kedarnath: Even in May–June, Kedarnath nights drop to 5–8°C. Pack: thermal inner, woollen layer, wind-and-rain jacket, trekking shoes with grip, rain poncho. Spare dry socks are essential.
  • Mobile phones at Kedarnath: Banned within 50 metres of the temple — CISF personnel enforce this strictly. Carry a printed copy of your registration QR code as backup in case phone battery dies during the trek.
  • Badrinath afternoon closure: Temple closes 1:00 PM–4:00 PM daily for bhog rituals. If you arrive around midday, use this time for Tapt Kund (hot spring near the temple) or Mana village (3 km away).
  • Cash and ATMs: ATMs available at Guptkashi, Rudraprayag, and Joshimath. Beyond Joshimath toward Badrinath, and at the Kedarnath trek route, cash availability is unreliable. Withdraw at Rudraprayag or Guptkashi.

Tour Itinerary

Your driver picks you up early morning in Haridwar — ideally by 5:00–5:30 AM. The drive passes through Devprayag, where the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda meet to form the Ganga, and Rudraprayag, another sacred confluence. Both are worth a brief halt. Most operators schedule a short stop here for photos and a quick chai.

On arrival at Guptkashi, check in to your hotel. In the evening, visit the Ardhnarishwar (Vishwanath) temple — this is where Lord Shiva is worshipped in his combined Shiva-Parvati form, and the temple has real mythological significance as the place where Shiva first hid from the Pandavas before fleeing to Kedarnath.

Many operators now book pilgrims into Sitapur rather than Guptkashi town itself, since Sitapur is closer to Sonprayag and shaves 20–30 minutes off the early morning drive on Day 2.

2026 IMPORTANT: Mobile phones, cameras, and video recording are COMPLETELY BANNED inside Kedarnath temple premises. Legal action will be taken for violations. Deposit your phone outside before entering.

This is the most physically demanding day. Wake up by 4:00–4:30 AM. Drive to Sonprayag, then take a local shared taxi to Gaurikund (approximately 5 km — private vehicles are restricted beyond Sonprayag under government rules).

The Kedarnath trek starts at Gaurikund (altitude 1,980 m) and covers 16 km one way to the temple at 3,583 m. This route was fully reconstructed after the 2013 disaster and is now well-paved with stone. The climb takes 6–8 hours depending on pace. Options available at Gaurikund:

  • Trek on foot: 6–8 hours ascent, 4–5 hours descent
  • Pony / horse: Available at government-regulated counters at Gaurikund. Rates are fixed annually by the district administration.
  • Doli (palanquin): Carried by 4 bearers. Suitable for elderly pilgrims who cannot walk or ride a pony.
  • Helicopter: Departs from Phata or Sitapur helipads. ~10 minutes to Kedarnath. NOT included in the standard road package. Book separately via heliyatra.irctc.co.in

After Darshan, begin the descent and return to Guptkashi/Sitapur for the night. Kedarnath morning Darshan (before 8 AM) is significantly calmer than afternoons when crowds peak. Start early.

After early breakfast, drive toward Badrinath via Karnaprayag, Nandprayag, and Chamoli. The road along the Alaknanda valley is beautiful but can be slow near Joshimath during peak season due to traffic checks and the ongoing road-widening work. Badrinath sits at 3,133 m.

On arrival, check in to your hotel. The traditional practice is to bathe in the Tapt Kund — a natural hot spring on the Alaknanda's bank — before entering the temple for darshan. The evening aarti at Badrinath (around 8 PM) is one of the most moving spiritual experiences on this entire yatra. Don't miss it.

If time permits before or after aarti: visit Mana village (3 km away, last Indian village before the China border) and the Bhim Pul rock bridge. Most pilgrims skip Mana due to tiredness but it is well worth the 30-minute detour.

Go for morning darshan at Badrinath as early as 5:30–6:00 AM. The temple is less crowded and the darshan experience is far more peaceful. After breakfast, drive back toward the plains.

Stop at Joshimath to visit the Narsingh temple — the winter seat of Lord Badri Vishal. This is where the idol is brought every November when Badrinath closes, and it remains here until the shrine reopens in April. The famous Auli ropeway (optional, ~₹700) is also accessible from Joshimath for views of Nanda Devi. Continue to Rudraprayag for the overnight stay.

After breakfast, drive to Haridwar via Rishikesh. Most itineraries include a brief stop in Rishikesh — Ram Jhula, Triveni Ghat, or simply a walk along the Ganga. The spiritual energy of Rishikesh feels different after days in the high Himalayas.

You arrive at Haridwar, completing the Do Dham circuit. If your schedule allows, the Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri (evening, around 6:30–7:00 PM) is a fitting conclusion to the yatra.

This 5-day itinerary covers Kedarnath and Badrinath with all meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner), private AC cab, hotel stay, and priority Darshan coordination.

Kedarnath Dham opens on 22 April 2026 at 8:00 AM. This was officially announced on Maha Shivaratri (15 February 2026) by the Badri-Kedar Temple Committee (BKTC) at Omkareshwar Temple, Ukhimath. The temple closes for the winter season around 11 November 2026 (Bhai Dooj — tentative).

Badrinath Dham opens on 23 April 2026 at 6:15 AM. The closing date is tentatively 13 November 2026 (Bhai Dooj). Opening and closing dates are confirmed by the Uttarakhand Char Dham Devasthanam Management Board. Verify latest updates at badrinath-kedarnath.gov.in.

Yes — Char Dham Yatra registration is compulsory for all pilgrims in 2026. Without a valid QR-code e-pass, entry is denied at the Sonprayag checkpoint (Kedarnath) and Joshimath (Badrinath). Registration is completely free at registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in. Our team assists every guest with this process.

The trek from Gaurikund to Kedarnath temple is 16 km one way, with an altitude gain of approximately 1,600 metres. Average time on foot: 6–8 hours. Pony rides, palki (palanquin), and helicopter services are available at Gaurikund — these are payable at site and not included in the package.

No. All private vehicles — cars, tourist cabs, and buses — are stopped at Sonprayag. From Sonprayag, you must take a government shared jeep (5 km, ~₹30–50 per person) to Gaurikund. This is a permanent government regulation. Our tour includes this jeep transfer.

Yes. Badrinath temple is fully road-accessible. The temple entrance is approximately 300 metres from the main parking and bus stand area. No trekking is required, making it well-suited for senior citizens and those with mobility limitations.

This 5-day package includes: twin-sharing hotel accommodation at Sitapur, Badrinath, and Pipalkoti; all meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner); private AC cab for all road transfers; Sonprayag to Gaurikund shared jeep transfer; priority Darshan coordination at both temples; and Yatra registration assistance. It does not include pony/palki, helicopter, personal expenses, or travel insurance.

No — pricing is transparent. The package price of ₹15,200 covers hotel, all meals, and AC cab. Costs not included — and openly listed — are: pony or palki charges at Gaurikund, helicopter fare, VIP darshan charges if opted, and GST at 5% on total billing. Nothing else is added at the time of travel.

Yes, with the right planning. Badrinath requires no trekking. For Kedarnath, senior pilgrims can use a pony (horse ride) or palki (palanquin) for the 16 km trek — charges are set by the government each season and payable at Gaurikund. Helicopter to Kedarnath is the most comfortable option for elderly pilgrims, bookable via heliyatra.irctc.co.in or through our team.

Kedarnath is at 3,583 metres above sea level. The overnight halt in Guptkashi/Sitapur (~1,319 metres) the night before is built into the itinerary as natural acclimatisation — do not skip it. Common symptoms of altitude sickness: headache, nausea, breathlessness. Descend immediately if these worsen. A medical centre is available near the temple. Consult your doctor about Diamox before travel if you have cardiac or respiratory conditions.

For Yatra registration and Darshan: a valid government photo ID — Aadhaar, Voter ID, or Passport. Carry the same ID physically during the Yatra; checkpoints verify both the QR code and your ID. Foreign nationals must carry their passport. At Kedarnath, carry a printed backup of your registration QR code as mobile networks are weak on the trek.

Late April to mid-June and September–October are the two best windows. The opening week (22–30 April) has manageable crowds and fresh mountain conditions. May–June is peak season — best weather but Kedarnath has a daily cap so register early. September–October offers clear post-monsoon skies and significantly fewer pilgrims. Avoid July–August due to monsoon landslide risk.

Yes. Cancellation 30+ days before departure: 90% refund. 15–29 days: 50% refund. 7–14 days: 25% refund. Less than 7 days or no-show: no refund. For force majeure cancellations (landslide, government restriction, temple closure), the company offers rescheduling. Additional costs from force majeure are the passenger's responsibility per the company's terms.
