  • The name Srinagar comes from the ‘Sri Yantra’, a large stone. People in the past believed it was dangerous, and anyone who looked at it would die. It was a cursed rock.
  • People were scared for many years. Then Adi Shankaracharya came and threw the rock into the Alaknanda River. After that, the town was safe from the curse.

  • By Air: Jolly Grant airport is the nearest airport in Dehradun at a distance of 150 km from Srinagar, Uttarakhand.
  • By Rail: Nearby railway stations include Rishikesh and Kotdwar, and Rishikesh is about 105 km away. Still, Haridwar is the main station and has better connections to big cities.
  • By Road: There are many luxury buses, regular state buses, and taxis that run daily from Haridwar and Rishikesh. From Rishikesh, it takes approximately 2 to 3 hours to reach the main destination.

Keshorai Math

Kamleshwar Mahadev Temple is a famous Shiva temple in Garhwal. It is one of the five special Maheshwar Piths located in the Himalayas. According to mythology, Lord Rama worshipped Lord Shiva here with a thousand lotus flowers.
When one flower was missing, Shiva tested Rama’s devotion by taking a flower. Rama was ready to give his eye instead. Because of this, the place is called Kamleshwar, means “Lotus Eye.” Shiva blessed Rama with the Sudarshan Chakra. Many people also believe that couples without children can have a baby if they pray to the lord with lighted lamps on Vaikunth Chaturdashi.

Gola Bazar

It is a famous market. People from hundreds of nearby villages come here to buy and sell things. At Gola Bazaar, you’ll find everything like handicrafts, branded clothes, and daily items. Don’t miss the delicious local food here. Try dishes like Aloo Ke Gutke, Chainsoo, which are very famous.
You’ll also find sweets like Bal Mithai, Jhangore Ki Kheer, and Singori in nearby sweet shops that are favourite of many visitors. No matter how much you shop here, you’ll always want more because the products are so unique and high-quality that people come from far just to buy them.

Tips: Try to buy homemade pickles and spices, they taste great and are healthy too.

Dhari Devi Mandir

The temple of Goddess Dhari Devi is built right above the Alaknanda River. In 2013, Dhari Devi Temple was moved from a 20‑meter‑high rock to a new building built right over the river. The view is amazing with green hills all around and the sound of river flowing below makes you feel relaxed and peaceful. When you visit, you’ll feel a deep connection with nature and God.

Tips: Photography inside the temple is prohibited.

Vishnu Mohini Temple

It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and his consort goddess Laxmi situated near the main market of Srinagar.
