With the oncoming of Kedarnath Yatra 2019 large rocks of ice are being cut to make routes for the pilgrim from Gaurikund – Kedarnath. Everyday 100 laborers provided by the district disaster management authority work in the region between Rambara and Lincholi which is covered in almost 5 to 7 feet of snow. By April 10th the snow is expected to be completely cleared before the actual beginning of Chardham Yatra.

The Kapat of Baba Kedar is scheduled to open on 9th May 2019 and currently the route is covered in almost 12 feet of snow. Even today out of 17 kms of trekking route to Kedarnath 12 kms is completely covered in snow and this is also the reason why any sort of movement is shut down for two months.

On 24th March the clearing of the ice between Bhimbali and Lincholi was started by the DDMA Guptkashi division. In this area the clearing of the ice is being carried out by dispersing small groups of workers in different patches of land.

Movement of the workers is being carried out by clearing out 2.5 to 3 feet of snow for horses and mules, this is also done with an aim of delivering much needed materials in the coming days of Kedarnath Yatra. As per the information provided by DDMA’s assistant engineer Deep Chandra Navani in the next two days around 100 laborers will join this workforce which will speed up the work exponentially.

He also told that this trekking route will be more suitable for the free movement of horses and mules by 10th April 2019. Even after this, the work on clearing of the snow will continue and till the opening date of Kedarnath Kapat more than 7 feet of the route will be completely ready.
