Ancient Trek Route for Char Dham Used By Pandavas to Be Revive

The revival works for the ancient walkway path of the Char Dham Yatra is being taken up by the tourist department. The purpose of this project is to provide the travellers and pilgrims with the charm that the pilgrims of the ancient ages used to experience along with making them come in contact with the history of the rest over stops or Chattis. This work will be commencing this year from Yamunotri. According to it, a team will be reaching Yamunotri Dham on the day of its opening.

CharDham TempleDuring the ancient ages, the Uttarakhand Char Dham Yatra was referred to as the Chota Char Dham Yatra or the Himalaya Char Dham Yatra. It was also considered to be extremely inconvenient. Due to the lack of transportation facilities the pilgrims used to go on Char Dham Yatra journey on foot. It used to commence from Mohan Chatti which is located close to Rishikesh. The entire pilgrimage route used to be extremely steep and difficult to complete. In such a circumstance, the travellers used to stay the night in desolate and secluded places. This also used to be the place where the pilgrims used to meet up and share some stories with each other. In order to reach each Dham there used to be several Chattis throughout the route.

For example – the walking route to Yamunotri Dham consists of Phool Chatti, Rana Chatti, Sayana Chatti, Hanuman Chatti and Janki Chatti have been mentioned. The route leading to Badrinath Dham also consists of Hanuman Chatti and in the same way Kedarnath route consists of Garud Chatti, Jungle Chatti etc. currently the government of Uttarakhand is working really hard in trying to connect the ancient and religious importance of this beautiful state to tourism. Actually, currently the Yatra journey has become so smooth and comfortable that now the journey no matter from road or even by helicopter can be completed within a day or maximum two. The preparation for providing the historical information about these Dhams and routes are being undertaken by reviving these Chattis. Under this project, the Chattis located in close proximity to all the Char Dham temples will allow them to reach the Dham easily on foot. The work for this project is being commenced at Yamunotri Dham which is the first Dham among the Char Dham portals.

The secretary of tourism, Dilip Javalkar has said that before the opening of the Kapat for Yamunotri Dham a team will be setting out on foot from the nearby Chatti. This team will reach Yamunotri Dham on the day of the opening of the Kapat.
