This ancient temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and remains flocked by pilgrims seeking the almighty’s blessings. The entire architecture of the temple bears an uncanny resemblance to the Kedarnath Dham temple. One of the most unique features of this temple is the fact that one can easily pray to Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, and Lord Vishnu at a single place. class="ez-toc-section-end">

This ancient and quaint temple is believed to be the spot where Lord Shiva married his consort Parvati. It is said that Lord Shiva asked for her hand in marriage at Guptkashi, another holy destination in India, and married her right here in Triyuginarayan Mandir during the Satya Yuga. This celestial marriage was formalized by Lord Vishnu, who was present there and acted as Parvati’s brother during the marriage procession and rituals. Lord Brahma was the priest at this glorious wedding, which was also witnessed by numerous ancient sages.

To mark the occasion, there is an Akhanda Jyoti (eternal flame) that has been burning throughout the year and is said to have been alight ever since the marriage took place. The exact location of the marriage is marked by a stone known as Brahma Shila, placed right in front of the main temple structure. This iconic temple is also mentioned in the Sthala Purana, a scripture specific to this pilgrimage center.

Before the marriage ceremony, all the gods and sages are believed to have bathed in the four Kunds of Rudra Kund, Vishnu Kund, Saraswati Kund, and Brahma Kund. It is also a common belief that taking a dip in these waters not only helps in attaining the purity of the soul but also cures infertility.

How to Reach

This ancient and extremely sacred temple is situated just 12 km from the holy town of Sonprayag, which is the last motorable road leading to the temple site. Several trekking routes are made available by the authorities for the convenience of pilgrims and yatris. Here are some of the trekking routes taken by pilgrims:

A short trek of 5 km via Sonprayag, which is on the Ghuttur-Kedarnath bridle path, passing through a thick green forest region.

The main shrine of Kedarnath is located 25 km away. Ghuttur is situated 12 km from Sonprayag, well connected by a network of roads from Haridwar and other important hill stations of Garhwal and Kumaon.

One of the most popular trekking expeditions starts from Mussoorie, which is a 17-day trek passing through Tehri, Mala, Belak, Panwali Kantha, Triyuginarayan, and Kedarnath.

In addition, the government authorities of Uttarakhand have developed six major circuits for the convenience of pilgrims, covering temples like Rudraprayag, Tungnath, Ukhimath, Madhyamaheshwar, Guptkashi, Triyuginarayan and Kedarnath.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Triyuginarayan Mandir in Rudraprayag is during the onset of the summer season, which falls between the months of October and March. The climate and temperature remain extremely comfortable and pleasant during the peak seasons, making it a great vacation spot. The month of December marks the beginning of the cold and freezing winter season, which lasts until February, with temperatures ranging between 0°C and -15°C. The monsoon season, from July to September, makes this place extremely cold and prone to heavy rainfall. The summer months from April to June, with temperatures ranging from 20°C to 36°C, are considered the most preferred pilgrimage time, when the temple is also filled with devotees.

Geography

The village of Triyuginarayan is located at a comfortable distance of 5 km from the holy town of Sonprayag, the confluence point of the Mandakini and Songanga rivers. The geographical belt connecting Sonprayag and Triyuginarayan Mandir extends up to 14 km between the temple and Toshi village. The entire region enjoys favorable agro-climatic conditions for the cultivation of apples, stone fruits, and other fruits. During the winter months, the area is covered with a thick white layer of snow, making accessibility difficult. The temple opens for darshan early in the morning at 7 a.m. and closes at 7 p.m. in the evening.

Why Choose Triyuginarayan Mandir for Wedding

For those looking for a unique wedding destination, this temple is one of the most sacred and pious wedding venues in India.
