Chardham rail projectIn the coming years, Char Dham pilgrims will have a smooth journey. The pilgrims/tourists will get to visit all four sacred places within four days. The central government has planned to connect the Char Dham with railway routes. For this a detailed survey has been conducted and report has been submitted to the ministry. In the next financial year, survey of the first phase will take place.

In the reiki survey it is estimated that, railway line will be built after Rishikesh to Karnaprayag rail route. The distance between Karnaprayag and Badrinath will be 100 kilometres only. After this Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri railway lines will be built.

In the reiki survey, total estimated distance of the railway line is found to be 640 kilometres. The second reiki survey will take place between the following routes: Dehradun- Vikasnagar- Yamunotri- Gangotri- Kedarnath- Badrinath- Karnaprayag. There will be separate expenditure in each of these sites, but the railway ministry has major focus on expanding the Karnaprayag railway line. The present scenario says that the Char Dham journey takes about 1125 kilometres distance and involves 9 days.

G.M. of Rail Vikas Nigam, Shri Manibhushan told that to make the Char Dham journey easier, the central government has planned of building railway routes all over there. Reiki survey has been done which shows the estimated railway line distance to be 640 kilometres. It will involve a 150 kilometre long tunnel too. In the next financial year the whole survey will complete and then only the total railway line distance as well as the total expenditure will be ruled out.
