Two years ago a terrible flood had hit Uttarakhand and inflicted a lot of damage on the Char Dham route especially in the Kedarnath area. However now officials say that the damage of the past has been wiped away as increased registrations were seen for this Hindu holy Yatra from Day 01.

In 2013 a huge flood had hit Uttarakhand taking thousands of pilgrims along with it. This naturally had a drastic negative effect n the tourist and pilgrim population for Char Dham Yatra and registrations declined by more than 40% to the tour of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath.

However this year the Uttarakhand state officials have stated that registrations showed a moderate increase from day 01 of the Yatra. The positive changes have been noticed from the day the gates to Yamunotri, Gangotri have been opened.

On the first day, 3000 pilgrims from 12 different states undertook the Yatra to Yamunotri while 3000 pilgrims also undertook their Yatra to Gangotri. The Uttarakhand Government is keeping a strict eye on the number of devotees and pilgrims traveling each day and head counts are being taken every day.

It has been noted that 55 foreign tourists had also undertaken the journey for Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. The domestic pilgrim population had come down mostly from New Delhi, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Mr. Harish Rawat had stated that he has conversed with some tourists and pilgrims himself and was happy to declare that they seemed happy with all the facilities and arrangements provided to them for the Yatra to Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath.

Mr. Harish Rawat also stated that in Gangotri and Yamunotri a hundreds of private cottages and more than 200 Government accommodation facilities have been arranged. 750 cottages have been booked online already. The State officials stated that the doors to Kedarnath and Badrinath will open on 24th April and 26th April respectively.
