Gangotri Weather & Temperature

Summer Season in Gangotri

The maximum summer temperature in the Gangotri region is about 25 degree centigrade. Days are cool & pleasant while nights could turn very cold. In May
Gangotri temple opens up to welcome a flood of pilgrims. Days are sunny, bright, cool and pleasant. This is the ideal time for Gangotri pilgrimage as well as Gangotri sightseeing.

In June
This is perhaps the best month of the year to let you enjoy your Gangotri travel and Gaumukh trek at its best. Weather is cool & pleasant and the journey can be carried out without much hassles.

In July
July is generally characterized by clear skies and a pleasant good weather. But often there are sudden, unexpected downpours leading to landslides and thereby impeding your journey.

In August
In the month of August, Gangotri is warm, moist and humid. The sky is covered with heaving rain clouds. Frequent heavy rainfalls lead to major landslides posing threat to life & disrupting the journey as well.

In September
Temperatures start dropping from this month onwards. There are no rains; weather is clear & pleasant during daytime. With night fall, temperatures drop but the cold is moderate and hence tolerable. People can enjoy their Gangotri Yatra in this month as well.

In October
October is severely chilly & cold. Temperatures are around 3 degree centigrade-4 degree centigrade approximately. Those who can tolerate intense cold can still make a journey to Gangotri even in the October month.

In November, December, January, February, March, April
During these months, Gangotri region experiences heavy snowfall. The entire region is clad in snow, turns freezing cold and becomes deserted as the temple shut down during these winter months.
