Chardham Yatris will not be Harassed Anymore; a Route will run Through the Mountains!

chardham yatra through tunnelFor the convenience of the pilgrims and to allow respite from the congestion issue in the Rudraprayag bazaar area, a 900 meter long tunnel is to be constructed at Rudraprayag. This tunnel will serve as a connecting link between Rishikesh-Badrinath and Rudraprayag-Gaurikund highways. The work of borehole survey for the tunnel construction has now reached its final stage. The tunnel is proposed to be constructed in vicinity to the Jawadi bypass bridge at Jagtoli [lying ahead of PWD office] in Rudraprayag district headquarters and is likely to have an outlet on the other side on Belni hamlet region falling on Rudraprayag-Chopta-Pokhri motorable route. The bridge that is supposed to be constructed on River Alaknanda will serve to connect the tunnel to Badrinath highway. With this ambitious plan the pressure of congestion on the Rudraprayag bazaar will be released on one hand while on the other, the Belni hamlet region will be brought out of danger.

In order to construct the tunnel yongma engineering company of South Korea plus India’s feedback Intra Company have started the work of surveying 4 bore holes. Till now 3 bore holes of length 50m, 70m and 140m respectively has already been served. The final survey work of a 260m bore hole is going on and out of these 260 only 20m is left to be served. After the completion of serving, DPR will be prepared on the basis of report.

At the time of tunnel construction, borehole testing gives you all information on the underground rocks, hardness of soil and underground water. With the assistance of machines, using thick pipes of 72mm this survey is being done. This testing will also let one know of the age of the rock.

BRO had sent a proposal to central government in the year 2008-2009 regarding the 900m long tunnel at Rudraprayag that would connect Badrinath & Kedarnath to the region beyond the hamlet region.
